Renew Hub- The Architecture

Renew Hub is a unique project conceived as an experimental bamboo structure. The project comprises 2 distinct areas as part of the factory shed building. One— the dining area with a kitchen that doubles up as an event space. This is an open pavilion. The second is the Renew Hub office which is an enclosed space.
It is built with a host of all-natural materials including bamboo, mud, and brick. The structure is a combination of bamboo posts, columns, and bamboo truss beams which are further spanned by bamboo purlins. The walls are either split bamboo jaali, or mud walls running through the bamboo posts. The roof is made of bamboo matt sheets and a cement board. This is finally topped with shingle sheets. The final structure is light, airy, and thermally comfortable for its occupants. While the dining space is air cooled, the office space is cooled using minimal air conditioning. A façade connects the cafeteria to the office for a uniform appearance. As a result, the factory shed building is wholly concealed. Renew Hub is the first building in North India which draws upon the material and craftsmanship of East India. While the bamboo has been sourced from Assam, the craftsmen who built the structure come from West Bengal. Renew Hub opens new possibilities for usage of bamboo as a building material.
