4. The counterfeit or swapped device
Two versions. A convincing clone sold as genuine, or a real phone with counterfeit internals — a non-genuine screen, battery or camera fitted after the original failed.
How to defeat it: check that the IMEI database returns the same model you are holding. A brand or model mismatch is conclusive. Then check Settings for any “Unknown Part” notices, and confirm Face ID or the fingerprint sensor can be enrolled — those modules cannot be transplanted between iPhones.
5. Advance payment and the fake escrow
A listing well below market price, a seller who cannot meet in person, and a request for partial payment to “hold” the device or cover courier costs. Sometimes with a convincing but fake payment-protection page.

6. The missing bill
